EnWorkz
unit commitment and dispatch technology helps firm refine
estimates of generator value
Austin, Texas (January 1, 2002)
- Capstone Global Energy, an energy consulting and origination
firm in Houston, has successfuly used advanced scheduling
technology from EnWorkz to refine valuation estimates
for an electric power plant. The study was undertaken
on behalf of a client based in California.
EnWorkz develops advanced software
products for energy companies. The EnWorkz Stochastic
Unit Commitment and Dispatch product is designed to
optimally schedule electric power generators under uncertainty
-- a difficult computational problem. However, since
the scheduling process also involves calculating the
profitability of a generator, the product is a powerful
tool for investment banks, consulting firms, and others
who need to undertake valuation studies for generation
projects.
Developed by two former professors
of computer science, the EnWorkz solution is the first
commercial product that allows optimized scheduling
of generators under uncertainty, in both regulated and
deregulated markets.
In the study, the client was able
to forecast the return on investment for a generation
project with much better accuracy than was possible
using conventional valuation models. "This study
provided us with validation that our technology has
great potential in the marketplace. Not only does it
address a difficult operating problem for energy companies,
but now we have proof that it can provide new capabilities
for financial analysts who need to estimate the valuations
of generation assets," stated Bill Tan, EnWorkz
CEO.
